Welcome To Team 21

Before I get into it, let me tell you just a little bit about Down syndrome.

Down syndrome is a genetic disorder caused when abnormal cell division results in an extra full or partial copy of chromosome 21? (hence the name Team 21) Down syndrome varies in severity among individuals, causing lifelong intellectual disability and developmental delays. It's the most common genetic chromosomal disorder and cause of learning disabilities in children. It also commonly causes other medical abnormalities, including heart and gastrointestinal disorders.

Team 21

My name is Rich, and I am the owner of Proforma Marblehead & Majestic Meadows in Morriston, FL. I was married to Lisa. We were blessed with 2 incredible children. Lauren and Matthew.

Lisa and I were blessed with Matthew (Mattie) Mistkowski on July 27, 2005. Mattie was born with Down syndrome.

We really had no idea about the journey we were about to embark on!

Lisa is no longer with us. We lost Lisa in 2016 after a 4 year battle to cancer. So now it’s Mattie and Me!

As a parent of a child with Special Abilities, I fully embraced the teacher, leader, and guide roles that come along with this responsibility. They say life is an endless learning process, and I was about to be schooled. I never imagined that I was the one who was about to be schooled. And my son Mattie turned out to be the biggest teacher of all.

Team 21 came came to be because of my love for my son, and my desire to help him find his passion and to use the skills that God blessed him with. You see, Mattie has incredible people skills. He was blessed with people skills that I could only dream about. I watched with amazement in some cases.

He could turn someone, who I thought was grumpy, into a person with a big warm smile.
He could walk into the office of the CEO of one of our customers (without an appointment) and all of a sudden he’s engaging in an impromptu conversation.
And the biggest skill for a salesperson…(and challenge for me as a parent) :-) he NEVER really was bothered by the word NO!

I watched and was amazed. Simply in awe of how people responded to Mattie. As he got older, I thought, why not? Why not help him continue to learn and use his God given skills? Why not not teach him to be a Customer Relations Specialist and a business person for my company?

Crazy right? It sure would be interesting (understatement) and it sure could be fun (understatement again) :-) And if I could help Mattie…maybe I could develop a program that could help other young adults like Mattie and their parents.

And that’s where the Team 21 idea came from. I’ve been doing this a long time…It’s time for me to do something to help my son and to help others like him. Maybe that’s what God wants me to do? So let’s give it a go. We learn and we have fun.

I would like to build the world’s first and best Special ABILITIES Sales organization!

My Dream

Having a sales meeting with my Team 21 parents and young adults at a some swanky hotel with a great pool! Can you imagine how much fun we’d all have? (You do KNOW the most important part of the meeting would be MEALS and FUN TIME) How cool would that be?

What's Next?

I would like to continue to draw attention to what we are doing. We are learning, everyday, the important role that representation plays in life and success. They say you cannot be what you cannot see. We want to help and inspire others to actualize their potential by following along on our journey.

On the horizon is a Father/ Son Podcast. We are also excited to get a variety of business training for Mattie and Drew. With Drew’s writing skills and Mattie’s people skills, we are on the cusp of a Proforma Marblehead evolution. I’ve lived enough to know that we miss 100% of the shots we don’t take. I want Mattie and Drew(and others like them) to know they are worth a shot, and can take their shot.
