Did you know that Down syndrome is a genetic disorder caused when abnormal cell division results in an extra full or partial copy of chromosome 21? Down syndrome varies in severity among individuals, causing lifelong intellectual disability and developmental delays. It's the most common genetic chromosomal disorder and cause of learning disabilities in children. It also commonly causes other medical abnormalities, including heart and gastrointestinal disorders.

My name is Rich, and I am the owner of Proforma Marblehead, and I have been learning about Down Syndrome since the diagnosis of my son before he was born. As a parent, I fully embraced the teacher, leader, and guide roles that come along with the responsibility of parenting well. They say life is an endless learning process, and I was about to be schooled. My son Mattie turned out to be the biggest teacher of all. 

Team 21 came to fruition because of my love for my son, and my desire to leave an impact both in the community, and for my Mattie. As a father of a special needs child, I have had the pleasure of meeting children and families with ranging needs. I also have gotten to witness first hand the individuality of my son(and his peers)in his gifts ranging from people skills to knowing how to bring the fun. 

• If you have a young adult with special abilities that YOU believe has incredible potential as a business person (with help, training, and guidance of course) We may be able to help!
• If you are a caregiver for a child, young adult, or adult and you can't hold down a full time job because you need to have the flexibility to care for this person. We may be able to help!

I know many young adults with “different abilities” who are willing and capable individuals. With patience, and training, I know they can succeed outside of the traditional roles society tends to reserve for them. I created Team It Up to show my son and Drew that their skills can transcend bagging groceries, or greeting, or collecting carts. There is nothing wrong with these roles if that is what they choose, I am simply creating another option. It is important to me that I pave the path for my son’s future, and others. 

I want these very special people to actualize their potential that I am blessed to witness regularly. Team It Up is the way in which we start.

 I would like to continue to draw attention to what we are doing. We are learning, everyday, the important role that representation plays in life and success. They say you cannot be what you cannot see. We want to help and inspire others to actualize their potential by following along on our journey. 

On the horizon is a Father/ Son Podcast. We are also excited to get a variety of business training for Mattie and Drew. With Drew’s writing skills and Mattie’s people skills, we are on the cusp of a Proforma Marblehead evolution. I’ve lived enough to know that we miss 100% of the shots we don’t take. I want Mattie and Drew(and others like them) to know they are worth a shot, and can take their shot.
